Hey, (whoever lurks on this forum waiting for someone to post something.)
I finally got enough cash saved up to invest in my first screen printing equipment, i’ve kind of bounced back and forth between getting a single station 4 color table top press and a single station 1 color table top press.
Just when i think i figured out which one i want i then learned about the dryers for the prints and have been looking into those. So i am just looking for input on equipment experience (brands/setups) that you have had experience with, good or bad, and any possible recommendations for someone like me who is new to this and planning on setting up a little personal shop in my garage.
thanks
August 4, 2015 at 4:51 pm #2393Hey Brainwaves. I would also like to see what most people pick for their first at-home-print-setup.
Right now I am starting at the bottom with a one color DIY Gigposter kit from Ryonet. Trying to start really cheap and work my way up. Plus I’m setting it up in my garage like you and I want to make sure I have enough room. I’m afraid a 4 color would mean I could no longer park my car in there.
I’m still in the process of setting up in my garage and I know there’s a ton of other stuff that I’ll need to put in there besides the press and I’ll share that as a blog post and here in the forums.
By the way this is a very inspirational garage setup over at gig posters dot com. Gonna implement some of these ideas for sure.
http://www.gigposters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71832I also have a $5 off coupon code on any of the Ryonet DIY kits if anybody is interested. Use discount code “STARTNOW” at checkout.
August 6, 2015 at 12:05 pm #2397I went with a Ryonet 6 color 2 station table top press for my first one as I didn’t want to end up upgrading within a year for enough colors to do simulated process prints…..same reason i went with a 2 station…..so i had another station for my flash dryer
August 6, 2015 at 5:30 pm #2398Yeah thats a good point about the 2 station, parrot.
For my next upgrade level I was looking at this 6 color 4 station press because of how mobile it is I guess.
http://catspitscreenprintsupply.com/6-color-4-station-cruiser-screen-printing-system/Been really focusing on the portability of my next press cause I dont want to take up to much room and I want to stay in the garage as long as possible. The fact that its stacked on top of a belt dryer kicks ass. I would love it if they had just everything stacked on top of eachother ha. Somehow fit an exposure unit under that and that would be amazing.

August 7, 2015 at 6:30 am #2400Yeah except that now you’re moving into the darkroom….Ryonet also has a press that has a dryer underneath and I can honestly say that Ryonets customer support and willingness to answer any and all questions has totally surprised me
August 7, 2015 at 6:35 am #2401BTW Jonathan at catspit is also a good one to deal with. I went with rilly-Hopkins because of how well they are built in relation to their prices. The Riley-Hopkins is a perfect entry level press and because of the price I was able to get all of what I needed including a conveyor dryer (vastex) for around $5500 bucks
August 9, 2015 at 3:49 pm #2402Just saw all the replies!
Parrot in the few emails i have traded with Ryonet people i agree that they are really amazing with their customer service. I am trying to figure out how they do their financing options. This is the package i figured would be ideal to start with no need to upgrade anytime soon.
Do those flash dryers that come with the kits do a good job of getting the inks set?
August 11, 2015 at 5:25 pm #2403Brainwaves…….Ryonet has been extremely helpful to me in the short time I’ve been dealing with them……However, I went with a bank loan because of the interest.
One thing…….I found out that my kit was all waterbased ink and I didn’t want that due to the fact that the ink dries out on the screen too quickly……have enough to learn without worrying about that. So…..I had them replace my kit with a plastisol based kit. They didn’t bat an eye.
The 16X16 flash dryer did an OK job when I went to their class but I went with the 18X18 for greater coverage and I’m glad I did. Also very glad I went with plastisol ink.The press you’re looking at is the same as mine other than mine is the 6 color press. I felt this was a better option for simulated process on dark shirts because of the need for a white underbase.
August 30, 2015 at 10:37 am #2430Casey you dont have a press of your own? do you have any experience with any particular brands yourself? everyone at the tshirtforum loves vastex and m&r presses. i’m sure theyre great but theyre so damn expensive. have you decided what youre going with and will you show a video update and how to use it? thanks
August 30, 2015 at 12:04 pm #2431Hi jeremyah. Ive only really used an m&r and a javelin at work and nothing else. Right now im just using a one color DIY screen printing kit from ryonet so I can essentially start as small as possible and get to every skill level one at a time really. I have an unboxing of that kit going up this week and then a full review video in a couple of weeks.
I have an upgrade timeline in my head of what future presses i want to try out. I actually had not looked at vastex at all but i will definitely add it to the possibilities list
September 1, 2015 at 4:01 pm #2432Hi Casey
A month ago I was just where you are….I just recently bought my 6 color 2 station press from Ryonet. It’s a good press and gives me perfect registration for multi-color prints. I could have spent more money and gotten a press with many more features but dependability and support was paramount. I get that with Ryonet. I went to the Philadelphia show last weekrnd and saw Vastex presses and they are “really” nice presses however, I still believe I got the best bang for my bucks. Any questions and I’ll be happy to respond.March 5, 2017 at 1:30 am #3304I am also planning for this, maybe just need to wait a little more time to complete my finances and have this one ready for real. Right now all of my business printing needs including book and booklet bounds color, I am using this resources http://www.digitekprinting.com/booklets-color.
